Holiday parties are so much fun and sometimes you end up with people over for an evening in a rather impromptu way. Here are 10 easy, fast and delicious appetizers to put out for a nibble.
Charcuterie – it sounds fancy and it can get as fancy as you like but charcuterie can embody a number of things. From a simple ham and pickle plate to a full on smorg, your charcuterie offering can be a quick, what-you-have display of black forest ham, cheese, sliced apple, olives and a bit of pretty whole grain mustard. For more charcuterie tips see our How To.
Wrapped asparagus – This is one of my favourite things to serve. Wrap each asparagus spear with some ham or puff pastry or both and pop it in the oven. It only takes about 10-15 min for the meat to crisp up at the edges or the pastry to puff and everyone loves it.
Cheese toast – Slice a baguette, sprinkle with cheese, bake until toasty. Serve with some tomato slices for people to add or not. So easy. So good. You can get fancy with this by using brie cheese and sprinkling with chopped walnuts but in the end, it’s still cheese toast. Shhhhh don’t tell.
Chips and Salsa – never fear, salsa is here! It’s simple yes, but even if a person doesn’t like salsa, chances are they’ll still go for a chip or two. Add in another dip like guacamole to expand the offering. Fancy this up a notch by doing a baked bean and salsa dip.
Sausage and pineapple bites – Take a sausage and slice it up into bite sized chunks. Use a toothpick to skewer a bit of sausage and a bit of pineapple. Bake until the pineapple starts looking a bit browned. Brush with maple syrup. Serve.
Baked Brie – Whether you wrap it in pastry or not. Whether you top it with jam or not. Whether you drizzle it in honey…or not. Baked brie is always a crowd pleaser.
Baked ravioli – Grab a pack of fresh ravioli, toss it in herbs and bread crumbs and bake. Serve with marinara on the side. Get the complete recipe here.
Smoked Salmon Pastry – Puff pastry is so fantastic for appetizers because you can easily do a number of things with it and it always looks great. These appies using salmon look so good.
Crostini – Have any baguette left from your cheese toast? Slice it up, layer with fig jam and a bit of ham and a sprig of fresh herb. Drizzle with a touch of balsamic. Yum.
Pan Fried Bananas – for dessert try these super simple, pan fried cinnamon bananas. They’ll fill the house with a warm scent as they cook. So easy!
