Valentine’s Day is one of my favourite holidays with no big turkey dinner requirement and no gigantic shopping list. It’s lighthearted (pun intended) and casual. I don’t usually do too much to celebrate the day aside from getting the kids set up with their cards to take to school. Sometimes I make a special dessert but not every year. For this low key holiday, I usually spend a little time doing something crafty, just for fun. A splash of red in the middle of winter always cheers me up so I love decorating around the theme.
This little craft idea is perfect because not only is it cute, but it’s useful too. Make one for each of your kids to hang up in their rooms for displaying their Valentine’s cards.
You will need:
- Hearts (you can pick up little wooden hearts in the craft store, or simply cut some out of craft paper or felt)
- Glue (a glue gun would be best but white glue will work too)
- Paint or scissors
- Blue tac, thumbtacks or tape to hang your string.
If using wooden hearts, you will wish to paint them in the colour of your choice. If using felt or paper hearts cut them out with scissors. Glue each heart to a clothespin and set aside to dry thoroughly. Hang your string on the wall or across a mirror or picture frame (I use blue tac for this but you could use a thumbtack if you are okay pushing one into your surface.) Hang your decorated clothespins on the line and pin your Valentine’s cards all in a pretty row to display. Enjoy!
